Jhansi has always been an important cantonment and railway centre in central India. The history of the area is reflected in adjoining smaller towns and the monuments that still survive from the past. You have only got to visit the Christian cemetery and note the graves of the many people of English descent to know this is a city with a historical past. It is divided by the railway line into military and railway areas. There is also the usual Civil lines. It could be a city that reflects the diversity and culture of India, together with its history, in one location. The Rani and the fort are outstanding in giving this city its unique importance in the nation.

Hello. Looking for a monument for an Evelyn Allamby, buried at St. Martin's, Jhansi, in 1931. If anyone visiting this site lives near the Church, I would be so grateful for a photograph of the grave. My e mail is suelwinch@gmail.com
Many thanks for any help, Susan Winch, England.
